12. Honduras.
The Honduras Mission Team is making their final preparation for the trip to Honduras. We will build one water treatment plant in El Jaral at an existing Salt and Light children’s soup kitchen, one two-bedroom house also in El Jaral, we will teach the Living Waters Bible School class to one elementary school (approximately 700) kids, teach men’s carpentry classes, men’s electricity classes, art classes, sewing classes, beading classes, and conduct sports camp with the youth. We will also deliver 24 sewing machines (6 new commercial duty) and over a ton of fabric and supplies. And, most importantly we will deliver the message of Jesus Christ to everyone we come in contact with.
We have 28 missioners, 13 are from Hawkins (including 2 youths on scholarships), 7 are from Crawford Street, 7 are from St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and one is from Broadmoor Baptist in Madison. We will be departing June 7th and returning June 14th. Overall we have raised approximately $50,000 that will cover the cost of the Mission. Over half the funds came from outside of Hawkins. There have been many people who contributed in many different ways to make this mission trip possible.
Thank-You to everyone!! Without your support this mission would not be possible. Now we need your continued support in the form of prayers for a safe and productive trip. The youth are still selling eggs to raise funds for the trip. Don’t forget to buy some eggs. The youth are eggcited!

Christmas Post
The Christmas Post
Every few years, Hawkins UMC's gift to the community is the production of The Christmas Post.
The Christmas Post is fast and fun. But underneath it all is the consistent message that faith in Christ is what makes Christmas real. Without faith, there is no Christmas, and without Christmas, there is no Cross. As Brother Sam says near the end of the musical, "Christmas is just the beginning."

Norman Rockwell
The production brings to life two of Norman Rockwell’s famous covers of The Saturday Evening Post: Hattie McGee’s newsstand and an exhausted Alice Garfield at the end of a busy Christmas shopping day.
Synopsis of the play:
It’s early on Christmas Eve, 1947, in mythical Homesboro, Indiana. Hattie McGee’s newsies are hawking the morning edition of The Christmas Post and Hertzog’s Department Store is about to open. Maxwell Seldon, sales manager, is bracing for his biggest sales day ever. Elliot Herzog, Jr., owner of Herzog’s, can smell money in the air. Bother Sam and his carolers from the tiny Central Avenue Church are hoping for enough donations to keep their soup kitchen open. And Alice Garfield is on a collision course with a disaster. A young WWII widow whose faith and pocketbook are both stretched to the limit, Alice is desperately trying to find “a little more Christmas” as a commission salesperson at Herzog’s this Christmas season. (Unbeknownst to Alice, her daughter, Katie, is secretly attempting to find “a little more Christmas” for her mother by working in disguise as one of Hattie’s newsies.) However, as the day goes on, Alice finds herself short of the funds needed for that one special present for each of her two children.
Then in a good-hearted attempt to help a late-arriving customer, Alice re-opens the store - only to have an uncontrollable mob of shoppers suddenly and disastrously descend on her from everywhere. When the dust settles, Alice has lost her job, all of her Christmas earning and is struggling with the last bit of faith she has left. But a last minute “miracle” helps Alice recognize that she has been focusing on her problems instead of God’s promises. As the last strains of music close the show, Alice rediscovers that faith in Jesus is the true key to believing in Christmas and to finding happiness in life.
